| Opis awersu | Facing bust of Emperor Justinian I occupying the central field, depicted helmeted and cuirassed in the Byzantine imperial military tradition, with a diadem or crown visible above the brow. The emperor's effigy is rendered frontally in the late antique style, with visible paludamentum (military cloak) fastened at the shoulder.
