Antioch's mint was briefly shuttered after the city fell to the Sassanid Persians under Khosrow I in 540, its population deported to a purpose-built settlement near Ctesiphon the Persians called Weh Antiok Khusrow — "Better than Antioch, Khosrow built this." Production resumed under Byzantine control within the decade, making issues from this narrow window among the more historically loaded of Justinian's reign. The ºΠ∕ officina notation places this piece within that reopened mint's reorganized structure.
