正面描述 Bare-headed right-facing effigy of Georg II, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen, rendered in high relief with fine detail to his full beard and aged facial features. The portrait is boldly modelled in a naturalistic style characteristic of late Imperial German coinage. A beaded inner border frames the design. The circular legend reads GEORG HERZOG VON SACHSEN MEININGEN, divided around the upper periphery, with the Munich mint mark D visible at the base of the truncation.

附加信息

Saxe-Meiningen was one of the smallest of the Thuringian duchies, and its gold coinage was struck in quantities so limited that even contemporary collectors treated these pieces as quasi-rarities from the moment of issue. Georg II — theater patron and reformer, known across German cultural circles as the "Duke Meiningen" — ruled until 1914, but the window for this particular 20 Mark type was narrow, production confined to just a handful of years at the Berlin mint.

Total mintage across the entire 1900–1905 run was under 30,000 pieces combined, making this one of the lower-output German imperial gold types by a substantial margin.
