Lithuania reintroduced the litas in June 1993 after a brief experiment with the talonas, the transitional coupon currency that had served as a buffer following independence. This note belongs to the first litas series printed by De La Rue for Lietuvos Bankas — a logical choice given the bank's need for rapid, high-quality production before domestic infrastructure could support it. The relationship between newly independent Baltic states and established British security printers during the early 1990s was almost a matter of course; De La Rue produced notes for all three countries in that period.
Pick 57 carries only a watermark as its listed security feature, which is relatively sparse by the standards De La Rue typically applied. Whether this reflects a deliberate cost decision or a transitional specification is not firmly documented.
