Issued in the first year of the Slovak State following the German-backed dissolution of Czechoslovakia in March 1939, this coin circulated under a clerical-fascist regime with Jozef Tiso — a Catholic priest — serving as head of state. It was one of the earliest coinage issues establishing the new republic's monetary identity, struck just months after Slovakia became a nominally independent client state of the Third Reich. Tiso was later hanged for war crimes and collaboration in 1947.
