Minden's prisoner-of-war camp operated under German military administration and issued its own internal scrip to control purchasing within the camp economy — a practice mandated across German POW facilities after 1914 to prevent captives from accumulating Reichsmarks that might fund escape attempts or be smuggled out. This 50 Pfennig denomination sits in the middle tier of what was typically a small denominations-only system, usable at the camp canteen and nowhere else.

Locally printed in Minden, the note carries no central banking authority — its issuer was the camp's own treasury office. Redemption after armistice was not guaranteed, and most camp scrip was simply voided.
