背面描述 The reverse displays the design of the host Mexican 8 Reales, showing the crowned royal arms of Spain flanked by the Pillars of Hercules, each bearing the motto PLUS and ULTRA on scrolling banners. The crenated central hole has been punched through the centre of the shield, removing the central quartering but leaving the crowned top of the arms, the flanking pillars, and the surrounding legend clearly visible. The circular legend reads ·HISPAN·ET·IND·REX· with the Mexico City mint mark Mo, denomination 8R, and assayer initials F·M· also present in the field. The milled border of the host coin is preserved around the outer edge.

附加信息

The "11 Bits" designation places this piece within the counterstamped coinage of Dominica, where Spanish colonial eight reales were officially cut, plugged, or holed and revalued to address a chronic shortage of small change throughout the Eastern Caribbean. The crenated center hole — punched rather than drilled, leaving a toothed edge — is the mark of the Dominica colonial administration's 1798 authorization, distinguishing local issues from the numerous unofficial mutilations circulating simultaneously.

Spain's eight reales were the dominant trade coin of the Atlantic world, which made them convenient raw material for improvised colonial currencies. Dominica changed hands between France and Britain repeatedly through the late 18th century, and currency instability followed each transfer of authority.
