The circular legend reads CAROLUS·IIII·DEI·GRATIA around the periphery, with the date 1790 appearing in the lower exergue area. The milled border of the host coin remains intact around the circumference. The central void, with its characteristic lobed edge, eliminates much of the king's neck and chest, leaving the crowned head and the surrounding inscription as the primary design elements. |

The circular legend reads ·HISPAN·ET·IND·REX· with the Mexico City mint mark Mo, denomination 8R, and assayer initials F·M· also present in the field. The milled border of the host coin is preserved around the outer edge. |
