| Opis awersu | The obverse retains the design of the host Mexican 8 Reales of Charles IV, featuring the laureate and draped bust of King Carlos IIII facing right, partially interrupted by the crenated (scallop-edged) central hole punched through the coin at the time of its conversion for Dominican currency use. The circular legend reads CAROLUS·IIII·DEI·GRATIA around the periphery, with the date 1790 appearing in the lower exergue area. The milled border of the host coin remains intact around the circumference. The central void, with its characteristic lobed edge, eliminates much of the king's neck and chest, leaving the crowned head and the surrounding inscription as the primary design elements. |
