Surrounding this central cartouche is a concentric band of Low German legend in raised hammered lettering, reading INT. RIKE. GODES. EIN. KONINCK. VPRECHT. OVE` AL. EIN. GODT. EIN. GELOVE. EIN. DOEPE, proclaiming the Anabaptist theological tenets of one God, one faith, one baptism. The entire composition is enclosed within a beaded border at the rim, with text reading in both directions around the field, consistent with the revolutionary religious character of the Münster Anabaptist kingdom of 1534. |

This central text block is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, surrounded by a concentric outer legend reading WE. NICHT. GEBORE. IS. VTH. DE. WATE. VN. GEISTE. MACH. NICHT. IN. GAEN, a reference to John 3:5 on baptism by water and spirit. The outer legend continues around the full circumference of the coin and is separated from the inner field by a beaded annulus. The overall execution reflects the hammered technique typical of emergency or ideologically motivated coinage of the period. |
