The Banque Centrale des États de l'Afrique Équatoriale et du Cameroun was itself a transitional institution — it was replaced by the Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale in 1972, making 1971 essentially its final year of issuing authority. Essai pieces from terminal institutions rarely see follow-up production runs, and this gold trial is no exception.
