正面铭文 日 本 國
昭和 年
(Translation: State of Japan Year of Shōwa)
背面描述 A symmetrical wreath composed of Hollyhock (Mallow) blossoms and foliage frames the central field, with two large blooms flanking either side and leafy sprays extending around the upper and lower periphery. At the center, the kanji character 円 (Yen) appears in bold relief, deliberately omitting any numeral denomination, consistent with the pattern nature of the piece. The field within the wreath is plain and polished, and the design is bounded by a raised rim. The overall composition is bold and deeply struck, characteristic of a presentation or trial piece.

附加信息

In the chaotic postwar years following Japan's surrender, the mint experimented with numerous pattern designs and compositions before settling on the bronze 10 yen that entered circulation in 1951. This nickel pattern at 23mm never advanced beyond trial stage, almost certainly a casualty of nickel's strategic designation as a controlled material under Allied occupation oversight — the same constraint that pushed Japanese coinage toward bronze and aluminum during this period.
