An inner beaded circle frames the central field, within which the large denomination numeral '10' is prominently struck in bold raised relief. The circular legend 'KLEINGELDERSATZMARKE' runs between the outer beaded border and the inner beaded circle, denoting the token's function as a small-change substitute currency. A single five-pointed star appears at the base of the design, below the inner circle. The composition and layout are characteristic of German Notgeld tokens issued during the period of acute coin shortage following World War I. |

Lichtenau's Glückauf colliery issued iron notgeld tokens during the First World War and its aftermath, when the imperial government requisitioned copper and brass for munitions, forcing mines and industrial firms across the Ruhr and surrounding coalfields to strike emergency wages coinage in whatever base metal remained available. "Glückauf" — the traditional miners' greeting — was a common corporate name throughout German coal country, which makes attribution of undocumented specimens genuinely difficult without the Lichtenau provenance.
