| Obverse description | Octagonal iron notgeld token with a beaded border running along the full periphery of the flan. At center, two crossed mining hammers (Schlägel und Eisen), the traditional heraldic symbol of the mining industry, rendered in raised relief. A circular Latin legend encircles the central device, reading 'ACT. GES. GLÜCKAUF' along the upper arc and 'LICHTENAU' along the lower arc, flanked by two five-pointed stars at either side. The overall design is utilitarian in style, consistent with German wartime and postwar emergency small-change token production. |

Lichtenau's Glückauf colliery issued iron notgeld tokens during the First World War and its aftermath, when the imperial government requisitioned copper and brass for munitions, forcing mines and industrial firms across the Ruhr and surrounding coalfields to strike emergency wages coinage in whatever base metal remained available. "Glückauf" — the traditional miners' greeting — was a common corporate name throughout German coal country, which makes attribution of undocumented specimens genuinely difficult without the Lichtenau provenance.
