Honduras spent much of the 1860s and early 1870s attempting to establish a credible national coinage, largely dependent on foreign mints and periodic monetary reforms that never quite stabilized. Pattern strikes from this period were typically produced to test designs, compositions, or edge treatments before authorizing full production — most were never approved. KM#Pn18 sits in that limbo: a copper strike with a reeded edge, likely submitted for official review and rejected or simply abandoned as fiscal priorities shifted.
Surviving examples are vanishingly rare, as patterns of this era were struck in minimal quantities and seldom preserved outside official channels.
