10 Pence - Charles III Clifton Suspension Bridge

The Clifton Suspension Bridge, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, was not completed until 1864 — five years after his death, and over three decades after work first began. Funding collapsed repeatedly, construction halted for years at a stretch, and the finished structure was partly built using chains salvaged from the demolished Hungerford Bridge. That the Isle of Man chose to commemorate a Bristol landmark on a circulating 10p is a straightforward product of the Treasury's long-running program of licensing topically diverse reverse designs — a commercial arrangement rather than any geographic claim.
