Beschrijving voorzijde Draped bust of Empress Maria Theresia facing right, her hair elaborately coiffed and adorned, set within an open wreath of combined palm and laurel branches tied at the base with a small eagle motif. The encircling legend reads M. THERESIA D. G. R. / IMP. HU. BO. REG., distributed around the portrait. The effigy is rendered in high relief in the late Baroque style, with fine detailing on the lace and drapery of the imperial dress. A fine toothed border frames the entire design.

Aanvullende informatie

Maria Theresia's monetary reforms of the 1750s and 1760s reshaped Habsburg coinage on a practical level — the 10 Kreuzer was part of a rationalized system designed to align Austrian circulation with the Conventions-Münze standard agreed upon with Bavaria in 1753. The .500 fineness was a deliberate concession to production economics, not a debasement in the pejorative sense, but a calculated adjustment to keep small silver in circulation rather than hoarded or melted.

After Theresia's death in 1780, her portrait coins continued to be struck retroactively for trade purposes — a practice more famously applied to her Taler but which extended to lesser denominations in certain mint runs.
