The composition is rendered in the naive, flat style typical of hammered Kipper und Wipperzeit small silver coinage. Flanking the figure to either side are stylized foliate or branch-like ornaments. The circumferential legend reads S • MARIA • MATER • DEI, identifying the subject as Saint Mary, Mother of God, in accordance with the Mariengroschen denomination tradition. |
