| Obverse description | Bare-headed bust of Prince George of Greece facing right, rendered in high relief in the neoclassical style by engraver A. Borrel, whose signature appears in small letters below the truncation. The circular Greek legend surrounding the effigy reads ΠΡΙΓΚΗΨ ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ ΥΠΑΤΟΣ ΑΡΜΟΣΤΗΣ ΕΝ ΚΡΗΤΗ, identifying him as Prince George of Greece, High Commissioner of Crete. The date 1901 appears along the lower periphery, flanked by decorative dots, with the mint letter A (Paris) incorporated into the legend. The field is smooth and the portrait displays fine hair and facial detail characteristic of Parisian mint craftsmanship of the period. |
