| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse presents a full-color reproduction of Sandro Botticelli's celebrated altarpiece Lamentation over the Dead Christ (c. 1495, Museo Poldi Pezzoli, Milan), applied using polychrome printing technology on the gold-plated silver surface. The composition depicts the Virgin Mary swooning as she cradles the limp, pallid body of Christ, surrounded by grieving figures including Saint John the Evangelist, Mary Magdalene, and other mourners, all rendered with Botticelli's characteristic sinuous line and rich drapery in deep reds, blues, and blacks. The scene is enclosed within a finely detailed ornamental gilt frame in Baroque style, with acanthus-scroll and bead-and-reel motifs, occupying the full extent of the square flan. No inscriptions or legends appear on the reverse field, allowing the artwork to dominate the composition entirely. |
