The monogram, composed of the letters of THEODERICVS, is characteristic of Ostrogothic and Gepid royal coinage struck in the name of Theoderic. A debased Latin legend surrounds the central device in the outer field, reading in retrograde or garbled form. The overall composition follows the established reverse type of Ostrogothic quarter-siliquae struck at Sirmium, adapted here by Gepid moneyers. |
