| Beschrijving voorzijde | Pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed imperial bust of Justinian I facing right, rendered in the late antique style typical of barbarian imitations of Byzantine prototypes. The effigy is encircled by a retrograde or debased Latin legend occupying the full periphery of the flan. The portrait, while stylistically crude relative to official Byzantine issues, retains the essential iconographic elements of the imperial effigy. The irregular flan and hammered fabric are characteristic of Gepid workshop production at Sirmium. |
