Obverse description Central field occupied by a bold multi-line Arabic legend in Naskh script, conveying the honorific title of the issuer. The inscription is enclosed within a dentilated or serrated border of alternating triangular pellets forming a decorative inner ring, itself surrounded by a raised outer border of continuous pointed lobes. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, characteristic of hand-struck hammered coinage of the Golden Horde period. The die is somewhat off-centre, with portions of the legend partially cut off at the flan edges. The overall style reflects the epigraphic coinage tradition of the Islamic steppe khanates of the mid-13th century.
