Winterhilfswerk - 1 Reichsmark

The Winterhilfswerk des Deutschen Volkes was the Nazi regime's annual winter welfare drive, framed publicly as a voluntary charitable campaign but functionally coercive — civil servants and workers were expected to contribute under close social and political scrutiny. These scrip notes were issued as donation receipts or exchange tokens within the WHW system, not as legal tender, and circulated in a tightly controlled internal economy of collection drives and redemption points.

Printing was handled by the Staatsdruckerei Wien — the Austrian state printing works absorbed into Reich infrastructure after the 1938 Anschluss. That the 1941 issue came from Vienna rather than Berlin reflects the integration of Austrian production capacity into wartime Reich printing logistics.
