| 正面描述 | Central field dominated by the elaborate interlaced royal cypher of Stanisław August Poniatowski — the letters S and A intertwined in an ornate script monogram — surmounted by a royal crown with arched bands and cross finial. The mint date 1766 is divided to either side of the monogram, with '17' to the left and '66' to the right. The coin's milled border frames the entire design. No peripheral legend appears on this face; the regnal initials SAR are referenced only through the monogram itself. |

By 1766, Gdańsk retained its extraordinary status as a semi-autonomous city operating its own mint under Polish suzerainty — a privilege fiercely defended through decades of negotiation. Poniatowski's monetary reform of 1765–66 was among the most ambitious in Polish history, attempting to rationalize a chaotic coinage system debased by decades of foreign imitation and wartime disruption. The trojak, a three-groszy piece with medieval roots, was drawn into this modernized framework almost as a concession to tradition.
Iger G.66.1.a is the primary catalogued variety for this date and mint.
