| Descrizione del dritto | Highly stylized and degenerate bust facing right, rendered in the debased Merovingian manner with schematic facial features and a hatched or striated diadem or helmet. The portrait is crudely executed in low relief, reflecting the late antique artistic tradition as filtered through Frankish workshop practice. A circular legend in Latin surrounds the effigy in the field, referencing the mint city of Verdun. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, characteristic of hand-struck Merovingian gold coinage of the mid-seventh century. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | A bold Latin cross occupies the central field, enclosed within a raised inner circle or beaded border, flanked by the letters Λ and C to either side of the cross arms. The cross is rendered with splayed terminals in a style typical of Merovingian ecclesiastical influence on coinage. A surrounding legend in Latin around the outer field names the moneyer Bertoaldus, the inscription partially retrograde and irregularly spaced. The overall composition is characteristic of Frankish tremisses of the Verdun mint, with the cross serving as the primary reverse device replacing the earlier imperial Victory type. |
