Quentovic, situated near modern Étaples on the Channel coast, was among the most commercially active Merovingian minting sites precisely because of its role in cross-Channel trade with Anglo-Saxon England. The moneyer name Anglus — appearing here in its second attribution series — almost certainly reflects the mint's deep entanglement with English merchants and possibly indicates a moneyer of English origin operating under Frankish authority, a practice documented at several emporia mints of this period.
The Prou variant designation suggests a die difference from the primary classification, though the Belfort concordance remains the more granular reference for Quentovic issues of this generation.
