Obverse description Youthful head of Dionysos facing right, rendered in high relief with naturalistic features including a straight nose and slightly parted lips. The deity is wreathed with a elaborate ivy crown composed of large heart-shaped leaves and berries, rendered in bold, stylized Celtic fashion with exaggerated foliate detail. Long wavy locks fall behind the ear and onto the neck, while a tendril curls forward beneath the wreath at the nape. The die engraving reflects a Celtic reinterpretation of the classical Thasian prototype, with somewhat abstracted facial modeling characteristic of Eastern European Celtic coinage. The field is plain and unlettered.
