| Beschrijving voorzijde | A serpent emerges to the left from a partially open cista mystica, the sacred chest of Dionysus, rendered in the characteristic cistophoric tradition. The cista is depicted in three-quarter view with its lid ajar, from which the serpent issues with naturalistic detail. The entire central type is encircled by a wreath of ivy with berries, a standard feature of cistophoric coinage, forming the border of the obverse field. The design is executed in the Hellenistic style typical of late Republican-era Asian mint production. |
