Mesembria, a Greek colonial city on the Black Sea coast of Thrace, struck posthumous Alexanders well into the first century BC — long after the practice had peaked across the Aegean world. By this point the type had become essentially a trade currency, trusted across the Pontic region precisely because of its familiarity. The city's issues are distinguished by their own control marks, and Price 1106 is attributable by a specific combination of monograms that place production squarely within the Mesembrian municipal series rather than any Macedonian royal authority.
