| Obverse description | Youthful, beardless head of Herakles facing right, depicted in three-quarter relief with strong Hellenistic modeling, wearing the scalp of the Nemean lion as a headdress, with the beast's jaws framing the crown of the head and its pelt draped about the neck and shoulders. The facial features are finely rendered with a straight nose, parted lips, and a naturalistic eye, reflecting the idealized portrait tradition of the Alexander coinage. The lion skin headdress is rendered in detail, with the mane radiating outward across the field. |
