| Obverse description | Youthful bare-faced head of Heracles facing right, portrayed with idealized features in the Lysippan tradition, wearing the Nemean lion skin headdress over the hair; the scalp of the lion covers the crown of the head, with the beast's forelegs knotted at the throat. Curling locks of hair are visible beneath the headdress, and the ear is clearly rendered. The portrait is executed in high relief with fine engraving characteristic of the post-Alexander posthumous series. |
