The hero is clad in the lion skin headdress — the scalp drawn over the crown with the beast's jaws framing the face and the forelegs knotted at the throat — serving as his divine attribute. The modeling of the facial features is accomplished with considerable artistry, with well-defined brow, prominent nose, and sensitively rendered lips. The hair, partially visible beneath the pelt, curls naturally at the temples and nape. |

The ethnic legend ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ runs along the right field. A monogram appears in the left field, serving as a mint or magistrate control mark. The composition follows the canonical reverse type established under Alexander III of Macedon. |
