The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine naturalistic detail characteristic of early Hellenistic die-cutting, the flowing locks of hair emerging beneath the lion-skin headdress. The facial features are idealized yet vigorous, alluding to the heroic ancestor claimed by the Argead dynasty. No legend appears on the obverse field. |

The legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ to the right and ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ below reads 'of King Alexander', asserting the royal authority under which the coin was struck. A control monogram appears in the left field and a second monogram below the throne, serving as mint or magistrate marks specific to the Salamis issue. The composition follows the canonical Alexander-type reverse established under Alexander III and continued by his successors. |
