Obverse description Central motif consisting of a heraldic shield bearing a crowned rampant lion passant to the left, rendered in the bold, somewhat crude style characteristic of 13th-century Low Countries hammered coinage. The shield occupies the majority of the field, with the crowned lion displaying pronounced claws and tail. A circular legend in uncial Latin surrounds the central device, reading HENRICVS DNS (Henry, Lord), separated by a cross pattée. The flan is irregular and slightly concave as is typical of contemporary sterlings from the Meuse valley region.
