The composition fills the flan with dynamic energy characteristic of Kyrenaean coinage of the late fourth century BC. |

At his feet to the left stands a silphium plant — the emblematic export of Kyrene — while a laurel branch appears in the upper left field. The city ethnic ΚΥΡΑΝΑΙΟΝ is inscribed in the field, identifying the issuing authority. The reverse type reflects the paramount religious and civic importance of Apollo as the divine patron of Kyrene, rendered in a dignified, classicising style. |
