The winged horse is shown in a dynamic galloping posture, all four legs extended, conveying vigorous forward motion. The cheek-guard of the helmet is clearly articulated, and a crest is visible atop the bowl. To the left of the head appears a hook-shaped symbol and the Greek letter epsilon (Ε), serving as civic or magistrate control marks identifying the issuing authority of Echinos. The workmanship reflects the skilled die-cutting traditions associated with Akarnanian silver coinage of the late Classical period. |

Echinos was a small Akarnanian settlement whose coinage output was modest by any measure — the reference variants alone suggest the surviving population of this type is too thin for firm die studies. Akarnania's federal coinage structure in this period meant most communities struck under collective arrangements, making autonomous civic issues like this one relatively unusual and chronologically difficult to pin down within the forty-five year window the type spans.
