Obverse description Facing left, the bust of Persephone is rendered in fine Classical style, her hair bound in a wreath of grain ears befitting her chthonic and agrarian associations. She wears a triple pendant earring and a pearl necklace, the latter rendered with careful detail. The portrait is executed in high relief with a naturalistic treatment of facial features characteristic of mid-fourth century BCE Greek coinage from Central Greece.

Reverse description The hero Ajax advances to the right, depicted fully nude save for a crested Corinthian helmet, his muscular form rendered in vigorous Classical style. He wields a sword in his right hand and bears on his left arm a shield decorated with a coiled serpent as blazon. The figure strides across a rocky ground line, with two spears depicted below, and the ethnic inscription OΠON-TIΩN disposed around the field, identifying the issuing community of Opous.
