| 正面描述 | A spotted stag advances to the right in high relief, head lowered as if grazing, the body rendered with characteristic archaic dotted pellet decoration denoting the animal's dappled coat. The musculature of the legs and haunches is boldly modelled in the early Ionian artistic tradition. A retrograde archaic Greek inscription runs along the upper field of the flan, reading ΦΑΝΟΣ EMI ΣEIMA, one of the earliest known coin legends and conventionally translated as 'I am the badge of Phanes.' The overall style is characteristic of the nascent coinage of Ephesos in the late seventh century BC, struck on an irregular bean-shaped electrum flan. |
