| Beschrijving voorzijde | A spotted stag advances to the right in high relief, head lowered as if grazing, the body rendered with characteristic archaic dotted pellet decoration denoting the animal's dappled coat. The musculature of the legs and haunches is boldly modelled in the early Ionian artistic tradition. A retrograde archaic Greek inscription runs along the upper field of the flan, reading ΦΑΝΟΣ EMI ΣEIMA, one of the earliest known coin legends and conventionally translated as 'I am the badge of Phanes.' The overall style is characteristic of the nascent coinage of Ephesos in the late seventh century BC, struck on an irregular bean-shaped electrum flan. |

| Opschrift voorzijde | ΦΑΝΟΣ EMI ΣEIMA (Translation: `I am the badge of Phanes` or `I am the tomb of light`) |
| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse presents three adjoining incuse punches produced by the hammered striking technique: two smaller square incuse compartments flanking a central rectangular incuse depression, each compartment filled with a linear cross-hatched pattern. This multi-punch reverse design is characteristic of the earliest phase of Greek coinage and served as the functional counterpart to the obverse die, securing the flan during striking. The punches are deeply impressed and clearly defined despite the irregular surface of the flan. |
