In his raised right hand he grasps a short sword, while his left arm bears a large round shield whose interior is decorated with a coiled serpent device; a second round shield lies between his legs on the ground line. The ethnic legend OΠONTIΩN appears in the field, identifying the issuing city of Opous. The composition is dynamic and vigorous, consistent with the celebrated tradition of Lokrian die engraving of the early fourth century BC. |
