| Obverse description | Draped bust of a female deity, most likely Hera, facing left in high relief, rendered in the classical style characteristic of Elis coinage. The hair is elaborately dressed and swept back, adorned with a stephane or wreath, with fine engraved strands visible above the forehead and at the nape. A small earring pendant is visible below the ear. The portrait is sensitively modelled with smooth facial planes and precise die-cutting, reflecting the high artistic standard of 4th-century BCE Elean engravers. The field is plain and unlettered on this side. |
