| Reverse description | A winged Victory, draped and facing left, stands upon a defeated barbarian enemy who lies prostrate at the lower field, the captive's helmeted head turned upward. Victory holds in both hands a large jewelled wreath enclosing a Christogram (Chi-Rho monogram), symbolising divine protection of the Christian empire. A six-pointed star appears to the left in the field. The reverse legend SALVS REIPVBLICAE — 'the salvation of the state' — encircles the composition, while the mint mark CONOB appears in the exergue, denoting gold of the highest purity struck at Constantinople. |
