Shahi - Tahmasp I Herat, Second Eastern Standard

Tahmasp I spent much of his reign fighting a two-front war — the Ottomans pressing from the west under Suleiman I, and the Uzbeks raiding repeatedly from the east into Khorasan. Herat, sitting squarely in that eastern theater, changed hands under genuine military pressure. The mint there operated intermittently depending on who held the city, and Safavid output from Herat carries a different administrative character than the imperial mints closer to Qazvin.

The "Second Eastern Standard" designation reflects a documented shift in the weight standard applied to Herati issues, distinct from the First Standard used earlier in the reign.
