The effigy presents the emperor with a broad, fleshy physiognomy consistent with his known portraiture. A bold circular Latin legend surrounds the bust, reading A VITELLIVS GERMAN IMP AVG P M TR P, proclaiming his full imperial titulature. The coin exhibits an irregular flan typical of hammered bronze issues of the Year of the Four Emperors, with a dark green patina covering the entire surface. |

The shield is set upon a low base or captive figure in the exergue, a common compositional device on imperial bronze coinage of this period. The figure is rendered in confident, if somewhat provincial, relief. The encircling Latin legend VICTORIA AVGVSTI flanks the figure left and right, while the senatorial authority mark S C appears in the lower exergue, confirming this as a senatorial bronze issue struck at the Rome mint. |
