| Reverse description | Central field displays the Portuguese royal arms arranged in a cross-shaped heraldic composition: five escutcheons each charged with five bezants (quinas) are disposed in a cruciform pattern, with the overall shield arrangement enclosed within a Gothic quadrilobe or cusped frame. The heraldic device is consistent with the arms of the House of Aviz as adopted under João I. The surrounding Latin legend, separated from the central device by a beaded border, proclaims the king's title as ruler of Portugal and the Algarve, with the mint letter L and mintmaster letter B positioned within the legend field. |
