背面描述 Crude double cornucopia facing outward, rendered in a simplified, schematic manner typical of the debased Hasmonean prutot of this series. A pomegranate, depicted as a small globular fruit with a projecting calyx, is placed between the horns of the two cornucopias. The design is deeply and unevenly struck, with irregular flan edges and surface encrustation consistent with extended burial. The double cornucopia motif is a standard Hasmonean reverse type introduced under Alexander Jannaeus and continued by his successors.

附加信息

Salome Alexandra ruled as the last independent Hasmonean queen following the death of Alexander Jannaeus in 76 BC, and these prutot were struck in the name of whichever son held the high priesthood — John Hyrcanus II initially, then possibly Aristobulus II after civil war broke out near the end of her reign. She herself could not hold the priesthood, so the coin's attribution to a male heir was a constitutional necessity rather than a political concession. The tension between her two sons would outlast her death in 67 BC and ultimately invite Roman intervention under Pompey just four years later.
