正面描述 Highly schematized and abstracted head depicted in profile, rendered in the characteristic La Tène Celtic artistic style without a neck, the facial features reduced to two prominent globular bosses representing the eye and chin. Three parallel curved lines sweep diagonally across the field to the right of the head, likely stylized hair or decorative elements derived from earlier Greek prototypes. The design is deeply cast in low relief with a broad flat flan typical of Gaulish potin coinage. No legend or inscription is present. The surface shows characteristic green patina consistent with the tin-rich bronze alloy.

背面描述 Stylized boar or bull depicted in profile moving to the right, rendered in the abstract Celtic La Tène manner with a pronounced arched back and exaggerated bristled mane or dorsal crest. The animal's powerful haunches and forelegs are summarily indicated by broad, rounded relief forms. A thin ground line runs beneath the figure, and additional linear elements frame the lower field. The design fills the flan with bold, simplified forms characteristic of Sequanian cast potin coinage. No inscription or legend is present.

附加信息

The Sequani occupied the territory of modern Franche-Comté and were persistent rivals of the Aedui throughout the late republican period, at one point inviting Ariovistus and his Germanic forces into Gaul — a decision that accelerated the very Roman intervention that ended Gaulish independence. Their potin coinage belongs to a tradition of cast alloy issues produced across eastern and central Gaul when access to silver was inconsistent or controlled by competing tribes.

The "without neck" variant distinguishes this piece from the more common necked type, a die distinction catalogued separately as DT#3088A.
