| Obverse description | Facing bust of St. Ursus, patron saint of the city of Solothurn, depicted in chain mail armor, rendered in a stylized medieval manner within a raised beaded or rope border. The face is shown frontally with schematic features typical of 14th-century Swiss bracteate-style coinage. The letters S and O, abbreviating Solothurn, appear flanking the bust in the field to left and right respectively. The overall design is characteristic of the small hammered Vierzipfeliger Pfennig type, struck on a thin, irregular square flan. |
