| 正面描述 | Central field features a cross pattée enclosed within a beaded inner circle, surrounded by a second beaded ring creating an annular border. The surrounding field is decorated with pellets or small ornamental elements radiating outward. The circular Latin legend RODVLFVS runs along the outer periphery, preceded by a cross pommée, referencing King Rudolf III of Burgundy. The overall design is characteristic of late Carolingian feudal coinage, struck on a thin, irregularly shaped flan with bold but slightly off-center relief. |

Rudolf III was the last independent king of Burgundy, and this obol was struck during the slow dissolution of his authority — a reign defined by his inability to hold territory against encroaching nobles. When he died in 1032 without an heir, the Kingdom of Burgundy passed to the Holy Roman Emperor Conrad II under a succession agreement Rudolf had been pressured into signing decades earlier. The Lyon mint's output from this period is consequently finite; no successor Arlesian royal coinage followed.
